CCA Wins Regular Season District 14-3A Title and Top Seed

An 11-0 whitewashing of Westminster Academy at home secured the top seed for the District 14-3A playoffs which will be held at WA in two weeks. CCA is now 13-5 overall and finishes district play at 6-2.

Senior Austin Sovay threw a five inning complete game shutout and is now 5-1. Sovay has started three straight district games in which the opponent was shut out and completed two of them. Against WA he scattered six hits and stranded a runner at third twice to preserve the shut out. Nine of the fifteen outs recorded were on ground balls.

Senior Ryan Reilly wasted no time getting the Eagles going with a lead off single in the first. He came around to score as part of a two run first which was all CCA would need. But the Eagles had a nice approach against the left handed starter from WA and kept pounding balls into right field where the wind was blowing out. Sovay helped his cause with a triple to right center and a double to left with the outfield shaded to right and a sacrifice fly.

Nick Kumar also tripled, drove in two and scored twice. Reilly had two sac flies and Jonathan Benestad had a sac fly and RBI single. Andrew Liberty scored twice after reaching on an error and being hit by a pitch. On the day, CCA stole four bases but was successful twice on hit and run plays.

This week CCA hosts the 4Him Classic with Olympic Heights, Lake Worth Christian and Chaminade on campus all week for round robin action. Game times are 4:30 Tuesday and Wednesday. Friday's game is 1 PM.
