Head Coach Gregg Mucerino
Calvary Christian Academy Baseball is lead by fourth year Head Coach Gregg Mucerino. Largely regarded as one of the top instructors in Florida, “Moose” will be seeking his 100th win as a high school head coach in early 2012. Mucerino enters the year with an overall record of 98-45-3 with 60 of those wins coming at CCA.

Last year, Moose guided the Eagles to a record of 18-8-1 including signature wins against Heritage Plantation, Pines Charter, Cypress Bay, Chaminade and North Broward. CCA fans saw the 2011 Eagles go 13-1 in the second half of the season outscoring opponents 137-34 during that run. Not surprisingly, seven players from that team are playing college baseball this spring; a tribute to the tireless effort Mucerino puts into marketing his players to colleges across the country.

The South Florida native played high school ball at defending State Champ Westminster Christian in Miami. In college, Moose was an All Conference selection for Florida International University in the first year FIU appeared in NCAA post season play.

Drafted in 1991 by the San Diego Padres, Mucerino played four years of professional baseball while completing a degree Business Administration at the University of Miami. During his pro career, Moose played for two future Major League managers, Dave Trembly and Tom Treblehorn.

Prior to arriving at CCA, Mucerino made three coaching stops at NCAA schools; The Citadel, College of Charleston and Loyola University in New Orleans. He was instrumental in developing future MLB players Dallas McPherson and current New York Yankee outfielder Brett Gardner.

Moving closer to home, Moose became Head Coach at Westminster Academy where he developed two Florida Gators and second round 2010 MLB Draftees Kevin Chapman (KC) and Matt den Dekker (NYM) as well as 2009 sixth rounder Michael Taylor (WA). In 2009 he accepted the position as Head of Baseball Operations at CCA. Mucerino currently has eight former Eagles playing college baseball plus Luke Jackson who was the 45th pick overall in the 2010 Major League Baseball draft by the Texas Rangers.

Mucerino and his wife Yvette attend Calvary Chapel and his children attend school at CCA. His father Harry is also a fixture at the ballpark and serves during services at Calvary Chapel.
