Gushue SEC Freshman of the Week - Again

Would be CCA senior catcher, nay UF freshman Taylor Gushue has been honored for the second time in three weeks as the SEC Freshman Player of the Week. Gush was chosen for his efforts in the Gator sweep of formerly #8 Miami last weekend. He went 4-10 with four RBI, three runs scored and a pair of home runs which he hit in consecutive at bats Saturday night.

Eagles Head Coach Gregg Mucerino was in attendance Sunday to watch Taylor play first base against the Hurricanes; a position he did not play while at CCA. "It's unbelievable," said Mucerino. "The way Taylor has adapted so quickly, not only to college pitching but to playing a secondary position and hitting in the five hole since day one."

But Mucerino knew Gushue could make the jump. "I talked to Sully (UF Head Coach Kevin O'Sullivan) last year and we agreed that if anyone could do it, Taylor could," said Mucerino. "He has the right make up. I couldn't be more proud of the way he is handling himself off and on the field, in that order. That's part of our Mission Statement at CCA and he personifies it."

Taylor is off to a fast start batting .333 (11-33) with nine RBI, eight runs, six walks, three homers, two doubles and a triple to go along with a slugging percentage of .727 and on on-base percentage of .463. He is scheduled to catch tonight against Florida Atlantic University.
