Eagles Score First Win Streak 13-5 Over Pope

CCA established a win streak Saturday with a 13-5 victory at home against Pope John Paul II and improved to 5-3. The offense got going early with 5 runs in the bottom of the first. Pope cut the lead to 5-4 against starter Andrew Liberty but reliever Jake Jackson came on in the fourth to kill a Pope rally. From there, CCA tacked on 8 more runs to put the game out of reach.

Liberty went 2-4 with a double, triple, two runs scored and three RBI. He also picked up a win in his first start of the season. Abraham Alejandro was also 2-4 with a double, two runs scored and three RBI. The Eagles hit balls hard all afternoon; Ryan Reilly doubled off the left field fence, Andrew Gottfried was 2-2. Every Eagle starter had a hit except Austin Sovay who walked twice and scored. Sovay also reached on an error when he slid under the attempted tag by the first baseman.

The running game was in top gear as well. CCA stole nine bases lead by Stephen Barnett with three. Liberty, Sovay, Alejandro and Jonathan Bennestad also has steals this afternoon.

Next week features two District 14 games on the road. Tuesday afternoon at Sagemont and Friday night at Highlands Christian.
